SongMakers workshops - Box Hill Senior Secondary School

SongMakers workshops

Senior music students were recently given the opportunity to colllaborate with some of Australia's most successful musicians and producers, as part of SongMakers - a national mentoring program run by APRA AMCOS.

BHSSC was once again been chosen to participate in the program, which is offered to a select 50 Australian schools each year.

Over two intensive days - 12 & 13 May - 16 students had the opportunity to work with two multi-Award-winning mentors - songwriter, performer and TV/radio presenter, Ella Hooper and producer, writer, performer, Grant Windsor (BBC Orchestra, Carole King, Jamie Cullum, Guy Sebastian).  Over the two days, these students worked with Ella and Grant, to create 'market ready' music, against the clock, from scratch.

The tracks created will form part of the annual BHSSC music CD.  Click on the following link to hear some of the music.

Run with the support from the Australian Government, SongMakers is all about contemporary music and is aimed at nuturing the next generation of hit-makers - right there in the classroom.

"The great thing about this program is that it takes the real world into the classroom.  For most of these students, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collaborate with and learn from some of the biggest names in music.  And because it's so hands-on, it really fast-tracks students' understanding of today's contemporary music world and the steps needed for success."

SongMakers 2016 marks the third year of the national program.  Go to to hear some of the workshop songs and for information about the high profile mentors.
